THE   O.P.A.L   CLUB

“Working for our Community”

Pomona & District Community House Inc.

Pomona Community House, in partnership with Noosa council, is running a programme for seniors in the hinterland community, with the aim of providing activities and events for residents over 50.

The programme is designed to give older residents the opportunity to get out and about, make new friends, try something new, have some fun and be involved in the greater community.

‘Older People Actively Living’ programme, affectionately known as the ‘O.P.A.L Club’ offers seniors free membership, bi-monthly newsletters and notification of seniors events in the hinterland.

We hold regular themed lunches at the Cooroy RSL Club including a very tasty two course meal, entertainment and fun competitions for the best costume for $10 per person.

Just when you thought you had seen it all, we held a “Stripes and Spots” theme lunch in August and everyone was thoroughly entertained by the fabulous Achara and Friends Belly Dancing Group. The laughs kept on coming when the “girls” seduced members of the OPAL club up onto the dance floor to show off their unique styles of this ancient Middle Eastern dance.

Keep your eyes on local newspapers for details of the next lunch but we will find it hard to match this one.

Activities available include Social Indoor Bowls, Tai Chi, Mah-jong, Scrabble, monthly trip to the movies, morning teas, table tennis, fitness for seniors, Cooran singers, Cooran Walkers and much more. The benefit of joining the OPAL club is simply to become informed of what is already available in the community, as well as upcoming special events as they are announced. With a view to keeping activities as affordable and accessible as possible, and the extended benefits of having ‘Bill’s Bus’ to transport seniors to certain activities, ‘Older People Actively Living’ programme is a wonderful way for over 50’s in our community to keep active in body, mind and spirit.

Participation in the club is free, however a small fee may be charged depending on the activity you participate in. If you are interested in registering with the club, contact Seniors Coordinator on 54852427 or email communityhouse@tpg.com.au
